The largest environmental project in Serbia regarding the construction of the flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) system at the TPP Nikola Tesla A in Obrenovac is progressing well. This project not only ensures clean air for Obrenovac, but also guarantees the extension of the largest EPS TPP TENT A. The contract for the FGD system in TENT A was signed in 2017 and the plant will be operational from May 2023. This will reduce SO2 emissions at units A3, A4, A5 and A6 as much as 9-fold, from about 74,000 tons to 7,747 tons per year.
ACTIV Project Management GmbH is responsible for the project management in conjunction with the cooperation partners Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems, Ltd. (MHPS) and its Duisburg-based subsidiary, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Europe GmbH (MHPSE).

In addition to the excellent placement in the area of flue gas desulphurisation plants (FGD) in 2019, Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) now also ranks first in market share by megawatts for gas turbine orders in 2020. According to data obtained from the McCoy Power Report first quarter global orders of 2,638 MW brought MHPS market share to 28.5% globally. This increase in gas turbine market share was largely responsible for worldwide order booking increasing by 19.7% during MHPS’ fiscal year ending 31 March 2020.

We congratulate our partner once again on the excellent ranking and at the same time look forward to continuing our good cooperation in South-Eastern Europe.

Due to the coronavirus restrictions, our partner Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) had to withdraw its experts from the construction sites Ugljevik and TENT A3-A6 Obrenovac in April 2020. ACTIV, however, was able to continue the work, despite the current restrictions, with the local teams that have been working on both construction sites since the beginning of both flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) projects. As a result, MHPS was able to continue to fulfil its contractual obligations for both projects.
For ACTIV, it is especially important in the current situation to be a reliable and stable partner for our business partners and customers. The employees of the ACTIV teams on site naturally adhere to the strict official regulations in their interpersonal dealings in order to prevent infection with coronavirus.
We would like to thank our local employees most sincerely for their work, for their dedication and commitment in the current situation!

Our partner, the company Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems (MHPS) from Japan, ranked top with regard to market share, with 37.2% of the global market for flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) systems in 2019. According to market research from the McCoy Power Report, for the last six-year period, MHPS had the world’s leading market share with 37%, delivering systems with a combined 51,010 MW of output. This is the fifth time that MHPS has obtained the top market share since 2014.

A three-month trial operation of flue gas desulphurisation (FGD) at TPP Ugljevik started on 13 December 2019. The EUR 80 million investment will reduce sulphur dioxide (SO2) emissions to 200 milligrams per cubic metre from 16,000 milligrams per cubic metre, meaning that emissions of harmful gases will be reduced 80-fold, thus fulfilling all the strict requirements of European legislation in the field of ecology.
The work of one of the partners on this project, the company RUDIS, was therefore also successfully completed. We thank the company RUDIS for the good cooperation on this project. Learn more: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FOzP1lLsz58

The latest “MHPS Energy Conference for Southeast Europe” in Portorož, Slovenia, presented ways and means to clean up conventional power plants. About 120 attendees from business and politics followed the lectures from MHPS’s experts and discussed the latest developments in, for example, power plant engineering, flue gas cleaning or the role of hydrogen in the power sector. What was very clear by the end of the two-day conference: No matter how you want to achieve a low-carbon system – Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems can offer the right tools, products and services.
The event took place on June 4-5, 2019. ACTIV Project Management GmbH actively supported the cooperation partner in the organization of the event.

The construction work on the flue gas desulphurisation project (FGD) in the thermal power plant at Ugljevik in the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina continues to make good progress. Up to now, more than 70 per cent of the construction work has been completed. The procurement of the equipment is also already well underway. If everything continues to go as planned, it is anticipated that the plant will commence trial operation in the middle of 2019.
With the completion of the flue gas desulphurisation plant, the emission of sulphur dioxide will be reduced by more than eightyfold, down to 200 milligrams per cubic metre, which corresponds to the strictest European standards. Secondly, the emission of suspended matter from the chimney will be reduced eightfold through the use of new electric filters. As a result of this pioneering plant, reliable electricity generation and climate-friendly coal-based power generation will be ensured in future in the Republic of Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina. In addition, the project will help to improve the environmental situation in this region.
Stronger together! ACTIV Project Management and its longstanding partner MHPS Japan have pooled their resources and opened a joint office in Belgrade. With the establishment of the new liaison office which was opened at the start of June, in particular the commitment in Serbia is to be consolidated further, new fields of business opened up and existing customers in the region supported even more intensively in the future. The office will be headed up by ACTIV team member Ivan Baković, Director of the representation in Serbia, and supported by a strong team comprising ACTIV and MHPS experts from the areas of project management and thermal power plants. The strategic association between ACTIV and the large Japanese corporation combines the strengths of both companies, consolidates the global presence and facilitates an ideal adjustment to continually changing challenges of global and local customers.
During our visit in Japan, talks about successful past projects, the status quo and potential future projects in Southeastern Europe were held in the catalyst factory Akitsu Works and at the MHPS office in Kure and Yokohama. We develop enduring relationships with our partners and for our customers and that is why multilingualism, inter-cultural competence, dynamics, flexibility and mobility are a great matter for us.
We look forward to hearing about your project.
